Al-Huras’s methodology for preparing leaders
A composite strategy that aims to prepare young people for the process of national liberation in a programmatic way.
Definition
The Al-Huras methodology is a composite strategy that aims to prepare young people for the process of national liberation in a programmatic way, by activating and connecting the following axes: a collective self context, outputs, content, techniques, mechanisms, graduation.
From concept to structure
The methodology is the way young people learn the Al-Huras approach, and the program is the framework in which it is applied. The methodology is not a straight line; it rests on activating and connecting a set of strategic axes.
The six axes
The interaction between these six axes is the main engine for preparing young people for the process of national liberation.
First pillar: a collective self context
A social, place-based setting with a group that wants to work, whose interaction with the methodology forms a distinct social fabric — producing the certainty that community work is done because it is part of this community, and because the community is responsible for improving it.
The methodology is not applied in an open context or among a mixed, unconnected group. It requires target groups and staff tied together in a specific context, even a temporary one.
Second pillar: targets and outputs
Outputs are the direct results of applying the methodology, enriching skills, knowledge, psychological wellbeing and collective life.
The aim is not to make people uniform, but to enrich them, guaranteed by the graduation standards.
The building matrix
| Side | Aim | content | Techniques |
|---|---|---|---|
| The human side | Raising awareness of self and identity for individual and community growth. | Identity, discourse, intelligences, vision, sermons, life skills. | Care, facilitation, training, mentoring, guidance, education. |
| The belief side | Raising awareness of causes to accept the other and engage in discussion. Planting religious belief and the foundation that secures the intellectual base. | The Palestinian cause, belief and self-purification, political issues, the Al-Huras approach, the Knights’ Kit. | Discussions, facilitation, training, education, self-learning. |
| Side | Aim | content | Techniques |
|---|---|---|---|
| The leadership side | Gaining popular leadership skills to prepare them for public work. | Leadership, management, teamwork, problems, decision-making, advocacy. | Facilitation, training, mentoring, guidance, education. |
| The critical side | Practising constructive criticism to train in the approach’s values and weigh personal and objective circumstances. | (built into the techniques) | Meetings, evaluation, competitive formats, medals and badges, challenges. |
| The participation side | Providing a space to measure impact, adjust behaviour and build capacity. | (built into the techniques) | Discussion-based, applied, self-directed, exploration, reflections. |
Implementation design: the five mechanisms
The systems adopted to apply the methodology on the ground.
- 1The rotation system
Constant movement between content areas.
- 2The intensive system
Focusing on one specific side in each period.
- 3The periods system
Each cycle covers several integrated sides.
- 4The stations system
Successive training and practice stations.
- 5The mixed system
Designed flexibly according to need and objective circumstances.
Measurement standards: graduation and medals
- It takes into account the individual’s personal and objective circumstances.
- It is also measured by the individual’s role in spurring on their peers and integrating with the group.
- Evaluation and recognition happen through the medals and badges technique, and whatever may be added to it.
“The goal is liberation. The road is work. The way is the approach.
